SIT IN "NO GELMINI Day" September 5, 2009 PSC AVELLINO
Good turnout at the sit-in "No Gelmini day" organized by the coordination of temporary school in front of the prefecture of Avellino Avellino September 5, 2009. The sit-in, which was held in conjunction with all the counts on the national territory, was held from 10.00 am and ended 12.30. It 'was a casual meeting of the Pacific School of Avellino turned to an even stronger denunciation of the dramatic moment we are living in Italy, with about 20,000 unemployed, with about 600 in Irpinia. The sit-in began at 10.00 hours after some of the demonstrators had failed to display banners, posters, different slogans. We have distributed several leaflets (which can be found on facebook) explaining the reasons for our protest and the clear rejection of the contract of service which the Government is preparing to humiliate us and offend us deeply. At
11.000, then, our delegation, with the presence of Trade Unions, has been received, always with a careful and in some ways inexplicable attention from the police, the deputy prefect. The deputy prefect
listened with interest to our problem. We exhibited our tragedy, that after years of service in the precarious school, starting this month we are left without work. We have expressed our disagreement with this reform aimed solely at cutting staffing for the containment of public spending. We have shown great concern for other decisions of the Minister on the PDL Aprea that public schools are moving towards corporatization. We reported that the elimination of some school buildings in Irpinia, the increase in class size, reduction of class hours, ordered by the Minister, the more serious the condition of a province for some time in emergency and strongly compromised in the social, cultural and communicative. In this context we would note the school can be an undeniable resource for the province. We have invited the head of the prefecture to take action on the organs of competence for the supervision and compliance with security standards for school buildings. We delivered, then the deputy prefect of the leaflets (available on facebook) where he exhibited all of our claims. The deputy prefect has expressed solidarity and assured us to oversee all security agencies, has promised to send our documents to the Ministry of Education.
At 11.30 the meeting ended. We have set out, the outcome of the meeting to all the protesters and several journalists.
We then gave voice to all temporary teachers who in turn expressed their opinion on this issue. All have shared in the fight to continue, in a united and compact, the withdrawal of the defense cuts and the workplace, to disapprove the proposed contract availability in the absence of concrete assurances about our future. It was agreed a meeting be held before the USP of Avellino, Monday, September 7 at 17.00, also for planning the next protest actions.
